Hannah and the Lights
by Dale and Elaine Haas
One December night, Hannah had an idea.
She told her Mama and Daddy, “Let’s go for a ride!”
They asked, “What for?”
She said, “Because I want to show you something.”
So they all got in the car and went for a ride.
And you know what they saw? LIGHTS!
At the first house they came to, they saw lights with all the colors:
red ones, and green ones, and yellow ones, and blue ones, and orange ones, and purple ones.
Hannah said, “That’s not it. Keep going.”
So they did.
At the next house, all the lights were white!
The windows and the fence and the roof and the porch were all white. And they were twinkling!
Hannah said, “No, that’s not it. Keep going.”
So they did.
The next house had all the colors: red ones, and green ones, and yellow ones, and blue ones, and orange ones, and purple ones.
And they had candles!
And a star!
Hannah said, “That’s not it. Keep going.”
So they did.
The next house had all the colors, too: red ones, and green ones, and yellow ones, and blue ones, and orange ones, and purple ones. They had candles, and a star, too.
And do you know what else they had? A Christmas Tree!
Hannah said, “No, that’s not it. Keep going.”
So they did.
At the next house, they saw – oh my!
The house was COVERED with lights – red ones and green ones and yellow ones and blue ones and orange ones and purple ones. . .and white lights, too!
They had a BIG Christmas tree and candles and a star, and on top of the roof was. . .Santa Claus!
Hannah said, “No, that’s not it. Keep going.”
So they did.
The next house had no lights at all.
All they had was a little manger with some hay, a sheep, a cow, Mary, Joseph, and a little crib holding baby Jesus.
“Yeah. That’s it. That’s what I wanted to show you. Now we can go home.”
So they did.
